The benefits of Bokashi composting system

  • Convenience: The bucket resides in the kitchen or nearby indoor spot next to where you create food waste, and the bokashi bucket need only be taken to the garden once every 3-4 weeks
  • Increased soil fertility: food waste is converted into rich soil within approximately 1-2 months, ten times faster than traditional composting systems
  • Cost saving: no need to pay for compost additions like straw.
  • No foul smell, flies or vermin
  • All food scraps can be added including meat, fish and citrus.
  • The liquid drained from the bucket is a valuable concentrated liquid fertilizer and drain "cleaner"
  • Less greenhouse gas emissions than normal compost
  • Bokashi is safe. It utilises natural micro-organisms to enhance our environmental health
  • Composting of putrescibles reduces the waste stream at the source

Photos right: Terry Allen, of Gawler, experimented to see the difference between the same eggplants and 2 different pumpkins grown with and without bokashi.
