Jacqui Hunter Jacqui Hunter M.Ent., B.Ed., Dip. Perm.

Jacqui combines her background in teaching with a passion for sustainable living and the arts. Her interest in environmental and developmental issues grew during the early 1990's through her role as coordinator of 'The South Asian Village', a Community Aid Abroad project based at Kidman Park Primary School. Jacqui designed the interactive program which offered thousands of South Australian students an experiential insight into the daily lives of the majority of people from the developing world.

It was the coriander that grew prolifically around the Sri Lankan hut that led Jacqui to a keen interest in lazy gardening! The children working in this hut would grind the coriander for the daily 'market' with left over seeds tossed on the ground nearby. The phenomenon of food growing wild led to the discovery of Permaculture which provided the framework for Jacqui's future directions.

Jacqui undertook studies in Permaculture Design and Horticulture; and worked as a trainee designer with Adelaide Hills based Hailstone Landscaping. hunter gatherer designs was established in 1997, with the initial focus on creating outdoor learning environments for children. In 2004 Jacqui won a scholarship to undertake Master of Entrepreneurship studies at Adelaide University and during this time was also successful in winning a Social Enterprise Grant to research Bokashi composting.

During 2006 Jacqui worked as the SA Community Garden Project Officer, a position established by the Department of Health to support over 30 community gardens in South Australia. (A presentation by Jacqui about Community Gardens to the Don Dunstan Foundation in April 2007 can be downloaded from Justice in South Australia: From the Ground Up).
